Apple may work on a TV
Let's face it Apple could make their own brand of TV if they wanted to and again make it innovative and destroy the competition. With Apple fast pace in growth and putting their hands in every media market imaginable, a TV in the future is highly probable at some point in time. According to CNET they might. If they were to put their hands in the TV market. The most innovative thing they could do is work on the power consumption aspect. Apple already has Apple TV built into the computers so it may not be a huge stretch for the company to do this. It's just more people they'll be competing against nowadays. Then again who can they not compete against. With the recession that we're in at the moment a high quality energy saving TV from Apple is probably what most people will want at this point in time. Saving money and energy is the highest priority on anyone's list, but more so seeing we're in the trough or slowly rising out of it.

Yes people want to save money but would this energy saving tv be cost efficient enough on the back end for the public to pay the higher shelf price?
It really all depends, some would rather be stay safe and save the money now instead of shell out a couple of grand. Others would rather buy the TV and save money all the way down the line in however so long. If anything, if people do decide to shell out the money for the TV, then it helps the country slowly but surely rise out of this depression. As of right now, an energy saving TV would probably be cost effective enough for people because it's Apple they usually can predict where the economy hype is at, at the moment.
I don't think that a TV from Apple would be a good idea right now because, as you said, we are in a recession. There are very few people who are going to want to spend more money on a TV just to save some money on energy bills. There are the Apple fanatics who will buy the TV simply because it's Apple, like the people who spend several thousand dollars for an Apple computer when a PC is at least 50% less expensive. Unfortunately for Apple there are only so many people who are like this and I don't believe they will generate enough revenue for Apple to stay in the market.
Isn't every major tech company? Most of them either sell tv's or make tv's. This is just another company trying to expand their product base in an attempt to get more profits, just like everyone else.
I think that apple should not make a television. Their uniquness is in their programming and software and a television wouldn't show off their uniquness. Also, if people already have apple tv, they already have a television that works with it so makeing an apple brand won't bring in a profit large enough to make it worth it.
