Here's the breakdown, Oracle is a software company that filed lawsuit last summer over the Android phone. Google's Android mobile software infringes Java patents and copyrights that Oracles owns due to their acquisition of Sun Microsystems. Most of you are thinking, " Oh it's Google they have stupid amounts of money," well here's the rub, Oracle wants acquisition of all Android phones and once all Androids are taken, they are to be destroyed. Oracle wants complete annihilation of the phone.
So let's say another smart phone is taken off the market, this makes phones such as the iPhone more valuable. Will this drive people towards iPhones now that a substitute is completely destroyed? Will current Android users who have their phones destroyed go towards iPhone next? We'll have to wait and see if this lawsuit has any legitimacy to it. I honestly think that people are going to lean towards the iPhones even more so now than ever. With AT&T buying T-Mobile, this lawsuit, and iPhones being released to Verizon, there's nothing I can really see that will stop iPhone from being completely dominant. There's also the economical aspect of this. This will force people to buy more smart phones which will force them to spend more money on the luxurious phone rather than the standard cell phone. Nowadays people like to do more than just one thing than call and text people.

This is surprising that Oracle is taking this drastic measure against google's illegitament patenting of the android. Oracle should buy the phone and continue to profit from it, destroying these phone seems economically unreasonable and unefficient. This lawsuit is doubtful to be passed since it has only been argued by one man without any previous acknowledgment of the patenting problem. This is a prosperous development, one that will not fade away easily. However if this lawsuit passes, I agree that economically this will boost the sales of iphones. Everyone wants "the worlds fastest smart phone" already, and knocking its competitors out of the picture is reassuring to the sale of iphones.

Thanks to the creation of the iPhone, more and more people are choosing to purchase one. They literately offer everything anyone could need on a phone! Why would one choose a phone where you have to type t9 when you could be easily typing however you would like? Wouldn’t you want a phone where you could easily access the internet or download the song you just heard on the radio? IPhones are perfect for traveling and its pretty much a computer. If you have an iPhone, you rarely even need a computer. Once Microsoft applications and printing from an iPhone is more accessible, along with a bigger memory card, there will probably be less and less of desktops and laptops. I truly believe that Apple truly has no competition. The IPhone will always end up on top. It’s easily accessible and by far is the easiest to work. So, due to the Android taken off the market, and the loss of T-Mobile, it should not affect the economy for the most part, except for the fact that the less dominant companies will lose stock. Society will always love the IPhone and Apples products, no matter what attempts to compete with Apple.
@ Hallie
Thanks for taking your time on commenting. As for as Oracle actually having a chance at passing this lawsuit, I agree with you. What's probably going to happen is that if Oracle does get what it wants then one can assume Google will pay them a large sum of money to make sure the Android doesn't get scrapped. But at the same time we can also assume that Oracle isn't out for money or else they would've asked for it. I guess that one man is out for blood.
@Haley
Thank you as well for taking your time to comment. I agree with virtually everything you just said haha. But substitutes in the technological world will always exist. What strays people away from the iPhone is the price of it or the contract with AT&T or Verizon. Let's face it, AT&T is a stupid service provider. It's dropped so many calls for me it's ridiculous. I don't think Microsoft applications will be more accessible for iPhones much less Apple in general, it's already hard enough for them to compete against Apple. Really the only thing they can do to fall back on is isolating the OS that Apple products run on and control the applications that Microsoft will not let them have.
I like hds2012's idea about Oracle purchasing the phones or have the ownership transfered as part of the lawsuit. Therefore, Oracle could become the sole provider of Androids. However, I don't see Oracle (a software company) providing cell phones. Do you really think that society would allow a company to recall all Androids and destroy them?
@Smith
I honestly don't think society would allow a company to recall Androids, much less destroy them. It's less choices in smart phones and Google will most likely give Oracle a ridiculous amount of money to make sure the Android isn't scrapped if the lawsuit does have some legitimacy.
If it does happen that all Android's are recalled, Google will take quite a blow. They'll probably want to do everything they can to recover, and do their best to come out with a new phone to restore their image. So if they take a hit from this, it will probably be pretty temporary.
I completely agree with you, whether or not this andriod lawsuit is legitimate the iPhone will continue to dominate all other phones. Now that the iPhone is going to be with so many other companies the andriod hardly has a chance; it might even be better for it to be destroyed so Google can come out with a very top of the line phone in the years to come. This being said I believe that nearly all andriod users will shift over to the iPhone for now, at least until Google can release its next top model.

Tanner, that sstatement is ridiculous. If you had done any research about iPhone sales compared to Android sales, you'd see that Android has iPhone beat in recent sales by 4%. On top of that, Android shipments worldwide have gone up 886% since last year. The demand for Android is sky rocketing compared to iPhone. That's beside the point though. I agree with Hallie, Oracle should, if they continue with the lawsuit, take control of the Android platform, not destroy it. They'd gain an unbelievable amount of profit from this, and if they work together with Google, the profit would be even greater. The demand for Android phones is increasing more than ever imagined, and I don't think Google has anything to worry about. This is just a nuissance for Google, cause they have demand on their side. The deman for Android phones is too much for them to lose this lawsuit.
For Oracle to destroy the Android is unreasonable because the demand for the phone is increasing, therefore Oracle will lose profit if they were to terminate the supply of the Android. Oracle should buy over the Android phone so that they can be benefiting from the increasing sales. But people also want the fastest and most popular phone so if this lawsuit does pass causing the termination of Androids supply, it will cause the demand of Iphones to increase drastically since it will be the best smart phone on the market especially since the Iphone is now being sold from Verizon and TMOBILE. With these two companies carrying the Iphone, the iphone supply will be increased causing the demand to increase since it will be the best smart phone if Android were to be destroyed. On the other hand, this lawsuit is no worry for Google because the demand for the Android is unbelievably extravagant which means it will be hard for them to lose the lawsuit.
Tanner, Mark, and Andi thank you for taking the time to comment. I would only assume that iPhone sales would increase if the Android was taken off the market. Mark, I do agree with out on Oracle taking up Android as their own, but they're clearly out for blood. What's most likely going to happen in that Google will pay Oracle a stupid amount of money to keep Android phones on the market and keep them off their backs. Andi, funny thing is, is that AT&T is buying T-Mobile so, Verizon and AT&T will be selling iPhones only if the agreement is made and the buying of T-Mobile doesn't break anti-trust laws. But you are correct that if Android is taken off, a substitute is lost and iPhones have that much more power over all other smart phones.
